New for 2018, Johan Lundgren's newest recreation may be his finest yet! The Black Heaven combines the power, aggression and tight response of the legendary M6, but with more refined, organic character that lends itself to more diverse tonal applications.
The Black Heaven® bridge model boasts crisp attack, meaty growl, and punchy lows accompanied by rich harmonics and excellent dynamics. There is plenty of power here, but with less compression and more of a wide frequency response. The Neck model is both articulate and juicy, so lead players will appreciate its depth and sonic complexity. Whether you're into modern down-tuned progressive metal, old school thrash, hard rock, punk or anything in between- the Black Heaven has you covered! Neck pickup AlNiCo. Bridge pickup Ceramic. BIG AlNiCo optional. Black adjustable poles. Short legs, 4-lead cable for all switching options. Available in 6,7 and 8 stringed versions. 6 stringed versions are available in open, black nickel cover or Drop-Top/Open Black nickel cover.
Been trying make one of my old guitars sound good for quite some time.
It´s actually my first "real" guitar which been modified a lot. Acoustically it always sounded great but when played thru an amp, not so good. Original pickup sounded very muddy with bad separation between strings. Tried to change to another pickup which sounded better but then i got problem with feedback when using distortion. I´ve heard nothing but good stuff about Lundgren pickups from friends and artists so i did some research and figured that the Black Heaven pickup was for me. I contacted Johan and explained my problem and also gave him info about my guitar (a strat style Kramer with Floyd Rose) and that i mainly play hardrock but not metal. Johan told me that it was a great choise but that i needed a F-spaced version of the Black Heaven (which you can´t find on the webpage) to optimize the sound. Standard would work but on my guitar the F-spaced version will work better. I´m so happy that i contacted Johan. About 2 hours after our conversation i got an e- mail that the pickup was on it´s way and 2 days later i received it. My guitar now sounds better then ever and have the string separation i was hoping for and also some overall clarity which is hard to explain. The guitar is equipped with a True Temperament neck and it feels like this pickup enhances the effect of the better intonation True Temperament provides. And no feedback issues anymore. Big thank´s Johan!
Awesome pick ups
The attack is fast and responsive enough that I can feel the difference between a light and a hard nail strike — the pickup doesn’t smooth over that nuance, it translates it. That dynamic range carries all the way from near-whisper fingerpicked passages to full-force playing, without ever feeling compressed or flattened.
What surprised me most is how well it holds up under distortion. Even with long, saturated lead tones, the strings never blur into a muddy wall of sound — you can still hear each string’s individual voice, even in chords and comping. That’s unusual for a pickup with this much power on tap.
Compared to what I’ve read about Lundgren’s M6/M7 models, the Black Heaven feels more relaxed and versatile rather than purely aggressive — and my experience confirms that, though from an angle I suspect most reviewers haven’t approached it from: fingerstyle playing rather than straight metal.
Overall, this is a pickup that doesn’t force you to choose between sensitivity and power. For anyone moving between genres the way I do, that combination is rare.
The guitar is custom made, one-of-a-kind so far, a headless JanJax by Erik Holmberg. These pickups are a perfect match with the guitar, which has low action, super high precision and clarity and "woody character".. The closest comparison I have is a Strandberg Prog with Fishman Fluence active pickups, but the JanJax with Black Heavens more clarity and more attack and works better for me. I own many guitars but this the one I play for everything now!
Wanted to upgrade my LTD M-201 Baritone (just one Bridge Humbucker), long search with a couple of options, glad my decision was made with Lundgren, needed an F-Spaced/Trembucker Version, was not on the page to choose, i contacted Johan (what a great guy), no problem, quick response and shipment, installation super easy, and i'm blown away by the sound, very clear, not muddy, even in Drop G, cleans are also great, was the right decison to choose the Black Heaven, very versatile Pickup, i can highly recommend it, thanks a lot Johan, you rock!
I decided to put a Black Heaven in Bridge Position into my 25,5'' in Drop C Tuning and what I got is this beautiful bite that works great for the heavy distortion i crave!
